The Dark Road

I know you walk a dark, dark road

But please let me ask you one thing

While you stoop under that invisible load

How can you know, your eyes are so very closed

How do you know, “for sure” it is really so dark?

If you only allowed yourself to open your eyes,

And when you open your eyes, you open your heart,

You open your soul, you open your arms, you open yourself…

Open yourself to the infinite possibilities…

Good, bad, ugly…but possibly only the good

And not the terrible, fearful, dreadful eventualities…

I know you walk a dark, dark road…

You feel alone, you feel lost,

You feel chained and oh so much in pain

Your delusions are such a stark contrast

To the carefully woven, story of a reality…

You can’t help but blame yourself

For the unknown grief you believe you’ ve caused

You torture your impressionable mind

Taking solace in self-inflicted, demented misery

Carefully treading a path to insanity.

I know you walk a dark, dark road

Please I beg you to stop and look

It is not dark, it is not black,

Please do not get so very hooked

It is but a sweet, sublime hue

Of the intrepid twilight sun bidding adieu

For what seems only a faint glimmer today

Can become a force of undaunted radiance tomorrow…

I know you walk a dark, dark road

Just know my love you are not alone…
